Week 2

Again, because this is a variant of English, there are many shared similarities between Standard American English and Transatlantic English. While working on this deliberate practice this week, I’ve tried to focus on the voicing aspects of the vowels and addressing rhoticity.

This week to help with my production skills, I’ve watched a variety of practice videos on YouTube and the movie I chose for my speaking sample. Now I have saved multiple short clips of well-known people who utilized this accent like Katherine Hepburn and Eleanor Roosevelt. I, of course, have been trying to follow different women's pronunciations, as it will match my vocal range better, but I’ve tried listening to multiple samples, as the pronunciation of this variant can vary greatly between speakers.

For this week’s recording, I’ve decided to slow down and focus on creating more rounded vowels, as this better aligns with the transatlantic accent (and British English) along with focusing on when certain consonants voicing changes (not pronouncing -r depending on where it lies within the word and tapped consonants).
